Last year I bought several cashmere tees, and I love them--there is nothing easier than waking up in the morning and dressing in cashmere, a white layering tee, and dark denim. Add shoes and a piece of statement jewelry and you have an outfit that is comfortable, classic, and appropriate for my casual workplace.

I find myself drawn to red shades this year, and while I typically prefer a classic crimson I did buy the J.Crew cashmere long-sleeve tee in dark poppy. It's an usually blend of red/magenta/orange, depending on lighting, but I found it quite flattering. It's also lovely with a brown tweed skirt I've had for quite some time.

I must admit that what pushed me to buy the poppy, though, was the thought of pairing it with another new item to my closet, the J.Crew flair skirt in floating rose. The print is beautiful, and would be lovely with a variety of tops--the poppy sweater, a chambray shirt, a camel turtleneck, and of course a classic white blouse.

My goal of shopping to a very specific list paid off, and I was able to find both the J.Crew gallerista skirt and the flair skirt in dark navy for a song--my personal shopper actually told me that I got the last gallerista skirt in the country. My timing has been right on with these buys, so I decided to make complete outfits for these pieces.

For the gallerista, I could always wear a white blouse or one of my black cashmere sweaters--and I'm sure I will. However, I also wanted to have a colored top option so I chose the cashmere long-sleeve tee in heather indigo. It matches the blue in the skirt perfectly and is a shade that can work into spring. I would love to get the short-sleeve version of this color, but I will have to watch for another sale.

I also bought the navy version to wear with the dark navy flair skirt. There is something so classic about a white blouse layered under a navy sweater with a white skirt, and this look also provides the perfect background for a necklace. Perhaps I'll try the gray bubble necklace--it would also be wonderful with the Majorica pearl double-strand that I have been eyeing.

While I love statement necklaces, I find they can be tricky to wear with prints, but the simple geometric shape of this one make it easy to pair with florals and stripes. The new modern red color caught my eye right away--it has the same resin cabochons and beads hand-set in 18K gold electroplated brass. The length is 24 inches with a 3-inch extender chain so you can adjust it to perfectly suit any neckline. I'm on a tight budget, but this is my winter splurge... shiny red for happy holidays!

If you wanted to assemble the perfect collection of black shoes, the Salvatore Ferragamo Nero Collection would be a great place to start. The Varinas are a classic flat with all the details that Ferragamo is known for--the beautiful Vara bow, leather lining, and leather soles. Comfortable and versatile, they'd work with leggings and a tunic dress just as well as a sheath and pearls.

The Flo wedges are a younger style and would be wonderful for travel--the heel is 2 1/2 inches, just enough for a figure-flattering height boost but not so high that they demand frequent taxi rides. I love the idea of these with wide-leg pants and a flowy silk blouse.
The Carlas are the very definition of classic with a twist--I truly cannot imagine an event where these wouldn't work, as they'd fit in at a job interview, a wedding, a cocktail party, or a night out with the girls. These beautiful shoes have a 2 3/4 inch heel and have been on my wish list for years. I would wear them with textured Wolford tights, a slim pencil skirt, and a draped gray cashmere jacket.

I'm going to wear a red dress, red tights, and red shoes, and then print out the Heinz logo and tape it to me. I feel like we're getting a lot of scenes where Blair wears her pajamas in front of Louis, and then they make up. This navy silk pair with white piped trim is a classic choice, but the last photo reminds me of the final scene from the pilot episode--a hint of things to come?

I haven't been buying much lately, but I did spring for a small J.Crew sale order in late August (posting about it was delayed as one of the items was a gift for a birthday girl!)

One of my closet holes was swim, and with this bikini means I now have a nice balance of one-pieces and two-pieces that I love. The retro dot ruched bandeau top and bikini bottom is done is sweet polka dots with flattering ruching. My favorite detail is the removable halter strap (not shown) that provides security when in the water and a line-less tan when in the sun.

I have a sick, sad problem called Jackie Cardiganitis. No excuses... but if I was going to make one, it would be, "Look how pretty the african violet color is!!!" Also, I may have a fantasy about lounging on a boat with this over the bikini above with a glass of Veuve in hand.
I experimented with the perfect-fit mixed-tape cardigan in dark grape and plan to wear it on the weekends over a white tee with black skinny pants or, if I'm lazy, leggings. Wish they made this in an emerald green or a cobalt blue.

I bought the watercolor floral scarf for my mom, and I was so tempted to keep it for myself. The color palette of jewel tones and the abstract softness of the pattern makes it wearable with almost any outfit.

This Martin + Osa tee has a very subtle elephant mosaic pattern--you can barely tell that the color swatches are making up a shape. I like the easy fit and the soft colors for summer, especially with a full khaki-colored skirt.

When the evenings get cooler, I add another favorite Martin + Osa piece, the loose-stitch cardigan in optic white. The silver buttons on the cardigan make is a little more special than the average basic.

I found this yellow and gray striped dress on Old Navy's website--it must have been a pop-back from the height of summer. It was a killer deal, and I love it. It's a yellow-and-gray stripe pattern with gray grosgrain ribbon straps. I've written about my love of the J.Crew double-faced wool Lexington jacket before, but given the interest in it I've decided to do a full post with a collection of photos. The jacket originally retailed for $250 (I've always thought it looked like an even pricier designer piece) and was a big hit right off the bat, but it's become a cult item and I always get compliments on mine when I wear it. Here's the original description from J.Crew:

It's hard for us to pick a favorite jacket, but this may be it: beautifully tailored in soft wool, with dramatic contrast piping and the most incredible, hand-painted enameled buttons we've ever seen. However, I also like to wear it as styled with the Martin + Osa summerweight slub cotton long cardigan in desert night purple as shown in the last picture below. The cardigan is slightly sheer with a faint horizontal stripe, and the racerback ruffle shirt gives necessary coverage without looking too buttoned-up.

I have been obsessed with this Badgley Mischka necklace since Blair worn it to perfection in episode 4.03. Since I don't have a Waldorf-sized budget, the $325 stunner was out of my reach--until last week when I found it on the Rent the Runway clearance section for $55. I was a little nervous since I've never ordered from them and it was final sale, but it came in perfect condition and it is incredible.

It's ornate yet lady-like and makes a chic statement. I plan to wear it with little black dresses, white oxfords, and cashmere tees. The five Swarovski crystal bows with glass stones are sparkly enough to be special but not too over the top for daytime wear. I'm especially enamored of the fourteen karat antique gold (plated, but that works for me because it would be too heavy otherwise) and the adjustable size from 15 inches to 18 inches. Basically... I'm still obsessed.
